Town Council Precept 2026–27
Narberth Town Council has approved its budget and precept requirement for the 2026–27 financial year.
At the Ordinary Meeting held on Tuesday 13th January 2026, the Council resolved to set a Town Council precept representing a 9% increase on the previous year.
The agreed precept reflects rising operating costs, inflationary pressures, and the need to ensure that local services delivered by the Town Council are adequately and sustainably funded, while maintaining appropriate financial resilience.
Impact on Council Tax (Band D)
Based on the confirmed 2026–27 Council Tax base for Narberth of 1,406.12 Band D equivalent properties, the approved Precept Requirement of £90,470 results in a Band D Town Council precept of £64.36 per annum.
This represents an increase of approximately £4.58 per year for a Band D property compared with 2025–26, equivalent to around £0.38 per month.
(Actual amounts for individual households will vary according to council tax band.)
Understanding the decision
In setting the precept, Members considered:
-
increased costs across services, utilities, insurance and contracts
-
the review of Council cost centres to ensure budgets reflect actual delivery costs
-
the fact that the Town Council precept had not increased for several years
-
how reserves may be used in future for non-recurring costs, such as winter resilience measures, in order to avoid further pressure on council tax
The decision was debated and approved in public session.
