Community Grants 2026/27

Backing local ideas. Strengthening Narberth.

Narberth’s community life is powered by local organisations, volunteers and people with ideas for making the town an even better place to live.

Narberth Town Council is proud to invest in projects that create clear and lasting benefits for local residents — from community events and equipment to programmes, improvements and new initiatives.

What funding is available?

Two grant routes, proportionate to your project

Small grants

Up to £500

For new or emerging groups, start-up activities, one-off projects and events, minor equipment purchases and limited community activities.

Supporting evidence is kept proportionate for smaller applications.

Standard grants

£501 to £3,000

For larger community projects, equipment, programmes, capital improvements, wider community events and initiatives delivering measurable outcomes.

More detailed financial and organisational evidence is required.

Requests above £3,000 may only be considered in exceptional circumstances and may require additional financial scrutiny and supporting information.

Who can apply?

Community organisations

Applications are welcomed from registered charities, voluntary and community organisations, Community Interest Companies, sports clubs, community associations, not-for-profit organisations, constituted groups and new or emerging community groups.

Community benefit

Rooted in Narberth

Projects should normally take place in Narberth or demonstrate a clear and substantial benefit to Narberth residents.

We particularly welcome projects that create enduring community value, strengthen local organisations and help activities become sustainable.

How applications are assessed

A fair and consistent approach

Councillors consider each eligible application against the published policy and the funding available. The assessment looks at:

  • community benefit
  • the number of people likely to benefit
  • value for money
  • sustainability and lasting impact
  • whether the project is realistic and deliverable
  • match funding or other support, where applicable
  • the organisation’s capacity to deliver the work
  • whether the project can reduce future reliance on grant funding

Before you apply

What cannot normally be funded

Funding cannot normally be provided for retrospective costs, private profit, debts, recurring operational deficits, core salaries, utility costs or responsibilities belonging to another public body.

Please note

Grants are discretionary

The Council may approve, reduce, defer or refuse an application, or attach appropriate conditions to an award. Inclusion within the Council’s budget does not create an automatic entitlement to funding.

Celebrating community impact

Good local ideas, made possible

Every successful grant represents local ambition, volunteer effort and an opportunity to make a positive difference. Grant recipients may be asked to share photographs and a short account of what their project achieved, helping the Council celebrate the organisations contributing so much to life in Narberth.

During 2026/27, we look forward to sharing the projects supported through the programme and the difference they make.
