⏰ TOWN HALL CLOCK UPDATE ⏰

Residents may have noticed that the Town Hall Clock has now stopped.

Following a recent inspection by specialist clock engineers, Smith of Derby, Narberth Town Council has received detailed advice on the works required to restore both the clock and the associated bell-striking mechanism.

The inspection confirmed that significant repairs are required. The estimated cost of the necessary works is substantially in excess of the budget currently available for Town Hall maintenance, and the Council is therefore exploring potential grant funding and other options to help support the restoration of this important historic asset.

At its meeting on 2nd June 2026, Council unanimously reaffirmed its commitment to restoring the bell mechanism and returning the clock to full operation. Members recognised the importance of the Town Hall Clock as a historic and much-loved feature of Narberth. At the same time, Council also acknowledged its responsibility to manage public funds prudently and ensure that any restoration project is considered alongside the Council’s other agreed priorities and budget commitments.

Before any works can proceed within the bell tower, the Council must also ensure compliance with wildlife legislation. Monitoring is currently taking place to establish whether jackdaws or other birds are nesting within the tower structure. If active nests are present, works may need to be delayed until it is lawful and appropriate to proceed.

Once the nesting position has been confirmed, the Council will be in a better position to determine a timetable for repairs and the reinstatement of the clock and bell mechanism.

The Council appreciates residents’ patience and understanding while these investigations are undertaken and remains committed to securing a long-term solution for the preservation of this important feature of Narberth’s historic Town Hall.
