Christmas Lights – Update from the Town Clerk / Proper Officer
The Town Council is aware of concerns about this year’s Christmas lights, including reports of some motifs not working and disappointment about the absence of lights in Market Square.
As Town Clerk / Proper Officer, my role is to manage contracts and provide factual updates on operational matters. Decisions about budgets, locations, and the overall scope of the scheme are made by elected Members through the Council’s formal decision-making process. For those decisions to be taken properly, it is important that they are considered at a scheduled meeting of the Council, supported by relevant reports from contractors and a summary of views received from residents and businesses, so that Members have clear and accurate information on which to base their decisions.
The Council’s contractor has attended site and reset affected motifs. Damp affecting some electrical timers has been identified as the likely cause, and the contractor will continue to respond to further faults where possible for the remainder of the season.
The extent and locations of this year’s installation were agreed as part of earlier commissioning arrangements. Feedback from residents and businesses, alongside the issues experienced this year, will be reviewed after the festive period so that Members can consider any improvements for future years.
Residents and business owners are encouraged to share their views by emailing (clerk@narberthtowncouncil.gov.wales) or writing to the Town Council, so comments can be properly logged and included in that review.
The Council appreciates the feedback received.
