What does a town councillor do?

A town councillor brings local knowledge, judgement and community views to the Council’s collective decisions. Councillors represent residents, help set priorities, read the papers and attend meetings prepared, ask questions, debate and vote. They must follow the Code of Conduct and act only through Council decisions or formally delegated authority.

• Represent the community and keep in touch with residents.
• Help decide local priorities and how the Council’s precept is used.
• Take part in Council, committee and project work.
• Make fair, informed and lawful decisions about public money.
• Undertake induction, training and continuing development.

How co-option works | Sut mae cyfethol yn gweithio

1. The Council publishes the statutory notice of casual vacancy.
2. During the statutory period, local electors may request an election in accordance with the notice.
3. If no election is called, the Council may invite eligible people to apply for co-option.
4. Application details, the closing date and the selection arrangements will be published here.

Eligibility, support and allowances | Cymhwystra, cymorth a lwfansau

Eligibility is set by law. Please check the application pack and current official guidance, or ask the Clerk before applying. Support may be available towards necessary care for dependent children or adults, and personal assistance for approved duties. Other allowances and expenses are governed by current rules and the Council’s arrangements.
